Wait until we find out about Henry Ford, or Microsoft, or Halliburton, Walt Disney, Universal, Apple, Google, Bayer, the websites we’re on, and I’d rather not mention the legacy of our many-acronymed institutions. Call it a tug-o-war for the lesser of *phew* a whole lot of evils?
The option to live a life built from scratch still exists, although you might have to cheat a bit by using your computer, to look up how to fashion basic hand tools, and maybe a book or two on building shelters and foraging and growing food would come in handy, since so much of that knowledge is lost on us now, and you might also want to trade some seeds with people that may or may not consent to a background check first (I’d avoid buying them at Walmart, to continue a theme)… Will you bring a wheel along, or fashion one?
The jury’s also still out on who’s allowed to be on what land, especially now that The US population alone is the size that our entire world population was back in 1492; and it’s also complicated in terms of going “back to the land” because technically the places where most American citizens are originally ‘from’ today—birthplace nativity notwithstanding—won’t actually allow us to immigrate back so easily, but otherwise… Welcome to Crazy?
(Oh, and by the way, some folks do take offense to the word “crazy” now so be careful out there. Today’s quip is tomorrow’s trip to the gulags. It’s the new craze, or oops, thing?)
Or we could embrace the messy contradictions of life, live a little, as best we can, explore the Left, the Right, the middle ground, and do our part in terms of accountability, education, and research, as best we can—and maybe not put all of our faith in corrupt corporate/political/media institutions in the first place, which have an almost infinitely long track record of self-serving lies, propaganda, and manipulation?
All of that halted somewhere around the time of just yesterday, I’m sure, but… Maybe we’ll also realize, reality being as it is, that it’s almost impossible to have all the answers, and we might actually have to collaborate with people we don’t know (&/or might not like) on occasion?
Maybe we’ll actually start solving some of our problems when we put team sports aside, and get back to reality?
Like equations, with little unsolved variables, that don’t mean whatever we hypothetically say they mean, or think they mean, when included in a broader context of our equilibrium—microcosms and macrocosms—i.e. genuine problem solving?
It’s an amusing bumper sticker tho, and I do appreciate the humor. I’m not critiquing the original OP’s freedom of expression so much (which I might even agree with depending upon the context) as pointing out the absurdity in choosing sides via social media tides, when life is as messy as it is.
What does Microsoft’s National Broadcasting Corporation (MSNBC for those who don’t do extended acronyms) have to say about it? I’m sure it’s a stunning tale of he said, she said, they said, and did, told with illustrious mood music and Hitchcockian suspense, but… then again, I also heard they said he said she said something different than what you heard?
Alas, don’t shoot the messenger please (that’s our first and second amendment for any academics out there who’d prefer not to read about it.) What was it Big Sister said, “History is a mystery best left unread?” Or was it, “Ignorance is bliss?” Not my big sister, born in 1984, because she taught me to always seek the truth, but you know: To each their own.
I did hear that our favorite couple Ignorance and Arrogance are getting a divorce, so we’ll have to see what happens to their children… I’m excited to see what Creativity, Truth, Beauty, Experience, Revelation, Evolution, and Wisdom have to say for themselves. And Science, oh Science, being the red-headed step child of a dysfunctional family, and never treated with the dignity she deserves in the first place, I feel like Science is getting a little bit tired of her parents speaking for her. I mean these are the same people who sent poor Freedom and Safety to live in the basement, where they’ve been at each other’s throats ever since 😥
Before we are so quick to judge the parents, though, we should consider how tough their grandparents had it, their ancestors, with funny names like: Echo, Narcissus, Nemesis, Jupiter… And little Pluto, Persephone, the world beyond Helen of Troy, a trojan horse, Ulysses, Ithaca, our UniVerse. Rumor even has it that there’s more to the story, that they may have had other descendants beyond Ignorance and Arrogance, and that the world forgot all about them? Rumor has it entire languages were lost, peoples, once upon a time, and towers fell, of hollow costs and hallowed gallows bells, but who can say, and will time tell? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? “Et Tu Brutè?”
Now, now, is this Myth, or is it misinformation? 🤔
Or has our outsourced labor made us so comfy we’ve forgotten all about the grubby “others”… the people who aren’t us—but those “workers” and “laborers” (both domestic and abroad) who make our lifestyles possible?
In a hypothetical world, sure, they might not exist… But what of this one dears?
Speaking of bumper stickers, shout-out to the one that says “Make America Think Again.” That would be an interesting possibility indeed…
